Indian Premier League 2024 is expected to begin from March 22nd In the 17th edition of IPL, a total of 74 matches will be played. Chennai Super Kings are the current champions.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season is expected to start from March 22nd and run until May 26th. IPL 2024 will feature 10 teams playing a total of 74 T20 cricket matches, including three playoffs and one final.

In the 17th edition of IPL, 10 teams will compete for four spots in the playoffs. Divided into two equal groups (A and B), teams within each group will play against each other in both home and away formats and once against the four teams from the other group.

During the league stage, all teams will play 14-14 matches – seven at home and seven away. The top two teams in the points table will qualify for Qualifier 1 and the winner will qualify for the final.

Meanwhile, teams finishing third and fourth in the league stage will play in the Eliminator. The winner of that match will play against the loser of Qualifier 1 for the right to play in the Grand Final.

Last year, Chennai Super Kings won the IPL trophy for the record fifth time by defeating Gujarat Titans in the final. The Mumbai Indians have also clinched the coveted IPL championship trophy on five occasions. Kolkata Knight Riders, with two trophies, are next in the list of IPL’s most successful teams.

New Delhi: With clashes with general elections in the country for IPL 2024 edition, Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal clarified on Wednesday that the cash-rich league will be held in India and the board will work with the government and others. The schedule will be announced after confirmation of the dates of general elections by the Election Commission.
Dhumal said that the announcement of the programs will be made only after confirmation of the dates of general elections by the Election Commission.


“We will work with the Government of India, agencies to ensure that the league is held in India. We are waiting for the announcement of the schedule of general elections and then we will plan accordingly… Just like during the elections which state will host which game, a plan will be made accordingly.”


When asked if a possible date for IPL could be shared, he said, “It (IPL) will probably start from the end of March… and general elections are in April, so we will work with the government on this.”


According to available information, ten teams are competing for the prestigious trophy, hoping to play a total of 74 matches, which are likely to be held in two phases during the general elections in India.
