During the announcement of the award for senior leader Lal Krishna Advani, Prime Minister Modi claimed that Advani has played a historical role in the growth of India.

New Delhi: India’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, has been given to Lal Krishna Advani, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who helped the party to national prominence in the early 1990s with his famous Rath Yatra for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Advani’s major contribution to the advancement of the country was recognized by Prime Minister Modi, who emphasized in particular his crucial involvement during the 1990s Ram Temple agitation.On Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated, “I am happy to announce that Shri Lal Krishna Advani Ji will receive the Bharat Ratna.” I shared my congratulations on receiving this distinction to him throughout our conversation.”

During the announcement of the senior leader’s honor, Prime Minister Modi said that Lal Krishna Advani’s contribution to India’s progress is remarkable. He called him one of the era’s most esteemed politicians.

Who is LK Advani?

He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1951. BJP legend Shyama Prasad Mukherjee formed the party’s political front, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was modeled after the Jana Sangh.

Advani was initially elected to the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Parliament) in 1970 and held the position for four terms, ending in 1989.

He initially held the positions of Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha and Minister of Information and Broadcasting following the Janata Party’s victory in the general elections in 1977.

Advani was a founding member and three-time president of the BJP.

His first election as a member of the Lower House of Parliament, or Lok Sabha, took place in 1989.

Advani held the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister upon the formation of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee administration in 1999.The Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, was given to Lal Krishna Advani in 2015.

Lal Krishna Advani was instrumental in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) rise to power. His contributions had a pivotal role in molding the party’s expansion and prosperity.

The Ram Rath Yatra was started in 1990 by Lal Krishna Advani as a protest against the BJP’s plan to build the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. This publicised Yatra, which started in Gujarat’s Somnath and ended in Ayodhya, received a great deal of support. Advani was instrumental in establishing the BJP’s prominence in national politics when the party, which had been a relatively small force in politics until the general elections of 1991, became the second largest party in the Parliament behind the Congress.
