Master Sculptor: The Legacy of Ram Vanji Sutar Ram Vanji Sutar, born on February 19, 1925, is an Indian sculptor known for his remarkable creations. He designed the Statue of Unity, which stands at a towering height of 182 meters (597 feet), making it the tallest statue in the world, surpassing the Spring Temple Buddha by 54 meters.

Personal Life:
Sutar was born into a Vishwakarma family on February 19, 1925, in the village of Gondur, in the Dhule district of Maharashtra. He married Pramila in 1952.

Career:
Sutar designed the Statue of Unity, located in Gujarat, which stands as the world’s tallest statue. He also created the 45-foot tall Chambal monument and a bust of Mahatma Gandhi, which was replicated and sent to other countries. Additionally, he designed the seated statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Parliament of India, with a larger replica at the Vidhana Soudha. He also designed the 108-ft tall Kempe Gowda statue at the Bengaluru International Airport.

Awards:
In 1999, he was honored with the Padma Shri, followed by the Padma Bhushan in 2016, both awarded by the Government of India.In October 2018, Sutar was bestowed with the prestigious Tagore Award for fostering cultural harmony.
